Mechanical Foam Breaker for Coffee Extraction Tanks
Extraction tanks, holding vessels and instant-coffee lines foam as dissolved gases and saponins escape the brew. Foam carries aroma and solids out of the process and makes level control unreliable — and chemical defoamers can be tasted in the cup.
What foam actually costs you
- ▲Foam overflows extraction and holding tanks, carrying aroma and coffee solids with it
- ▲Foam on level probes makes tank automation unreliable
- ▲Chemical defoamer residue can affect flavour — unacceptable in a food product
- ▲Foam in filling and spray-drying lines disrupts dosing and yield
How the DP Series fixes it
The DP Series breaks coffee-process foam mechanically on closed tanks and lines, returning the separated liquid to the vessel. No chemicals, no flavour impact, hygienic 316L construction.

Hygienic flange mounting on closed tanks and process lines.

Why a mechanical foam breaker beats chemical defoamers here
Mechanical foam breaker (DP Series)
- • No chemical dosing — zero interference with your process chemistry
- • One-time purchase, 12-month warranty, 10-year service life
- • No ongoing anti-foam agent cost — payback in 6-12 months
- • No residue in product or effluent — food & pharma safe
- • Centrifugal principle: instant foam breaking at the surface
Chemical defoamer dosing
- • Recurring chemical cost every month
- • Can alter product flavour, colour or reaction chemistry
- • Residue in effluent increases wastewater load
- • Dosing pump maintenance and inventory
- • Overdosing kills the foam you actually need
Frequently asked questions
Why does coffee extraction foam?
Dissolved gases escape the brew during extraction and holding, while saponins and proteins from the coffee stabilise the bubbles into persistent foam.
Can a mechanical foam breaker affect coffee flavour?
No. Mechanical breaking adds nothing to the coffee — no chemicals, no residue. Chemical defoamers, by contrast, can leave a taste in a product where flavour is everything.
Where in the process should it be installed?
On extraction tanks, holding vessels and surge tanks feeding filling or spray-drying lines — wherever foam forms and interferes with level control or yield.
Is the unit food-grade?
Yes. Wetted parts are 316L stainless with Ra < 0.5 µm inside finish and mirror-polished outside, built to hygienic food standards.
What about foam in instant coffee spray drying?
Foam entering a spray dryer disrupts atomisation and dosing. Breaking foam upstream of the dryer protects yield and consistent powder quality.
